Actually the rumours are of 70% to 100% faster cards.

Edit: I came across a nice video which explains allot about the features DX11 will be bringing and shows the difference.

The thing is that I know the "suggested" specs which make over 50% easily possible and knowing the superiority of DX11 vs. DX10 100% will be possible, there is also a fact that ATI has something up there sleeve but what this major change is isn't sure.

ATI Evergreen series is going to be called the 7 series?
This data was read from the BIOS of a Evergreen card.

This was suggested before and marked as false back then.

Someone on the XS forums has taken the time to gather all info and rumours about the upcoming ATI cards and put it in 1 post.

I have a whole range of new information!

AMD is going to use the number 7 in the coming Evergreen series and is going to setup a clear image between low, mid and high end and are going to link the numbering of there CPU's, GPU's and chipsets so the consumer knows when he is buying a high end graphics card and a linked high end CPU.

GPU naming examples:
Radeon 7-9X0
Radeon 7-7X0
Radeon 7-6X0
Radeon 7-3X0
Radeon 7-1X0
Where X can be a 5, 3 and 1 (higher is better).

So when you buy for example a 950 CPU with a 7-900 chipset and a 7-9X0 video card you know it's all high end.

AMD is also going to distribute there own cards world wide (BBA cards), AMD did this in a limited amount of countries before... so now we can buy a card directly from ATI instead of for example Sapphire (still possible tho).

Apparently the new Radeon tag line will be "Visual Clarity".

I just heard something that hasn't even spread on the internet, nVidia is going to take there card in a limited production without any more testing inbetween.
If this goes correctly nVidia will have there DX11 cards out in October or November and if it goes wrong they will lose roughly 50 million dollar.

It looks very similar to the 4870's cooler.

Yes it is a PR stunt and ATI did it in the past (launching the R360 on Alcatraz) and prolly tries to create the biggest hype for these new cards they can create to push sales... if it works for them then why not?

So when these gpu's come on market a lot will be like " Oh yea i saw them on that event and stuff" which ofc also people will tell other people so the product gets more and more known to other people which would lead to "hey dude my gfx blown up" - " np, i saw some kickass gfx on that event" and so on and so on..

also its simply "spectacular" and such things stay longer in mind then an advertsing on tv.

Well it seems like Charlie from SA is claiming the new naming isn't going to be the 7 series.

nVidia starts another renaming campaign (3rd time I believe).

Back in June 2008, nVidia launched GeForce GTX 200 series and claimed that the time of confusing naming conventions is up - future products will be much simpler and easy to understand. Well, somebody in nVidia didn't got that memo because the company continued with frankly, completely stupid naming and renaming policies.

nVidia Presents Support for Windows 7 DirectX Compute

In an internal presentation perhaps to its primary clients, NVIDIA presented support for Windows 7 DirectX Compute. For a welcome change, the slides show no signs of NVIDIA's own CUDA technology, and in turn promise huge performance gains when a Windows 7 machine is aided with an NVIDIA graphics processor. The gains NVIDIA predicts range anywhere between 2 times to 20 times over plain CPU-driven processing, focusing on media-related applications such as Cyberlink PowerDirector, MotionDSP vReveal, and of course Badaboom.

DirectX Compute API will be natively built into Windows 7. It supports both existing DirectX 10 compliant GPUs, and future DirectX 11 ones. Along with pledging full support for it, NVIDIA also explains how the GPU becomes an increasingly important component of the PC, being "central to the Windows 7 experience". As a bonus tidbit, it adds that on Windows 7 the SLI multi-GPU technology works 10% faster than on Windows XP.

AMD DX11 Cypress is Radeon HD 5870 & HD 5850


AMD has informed their partners that their upcoming DX11 Cypress cards will be known as Radeon HD 5800 series. Cypress XT is Radeon HD 5870 while Cypress PRO is Radeon HD 5850. The key features of these DX11 cards are :

• 1GB GDDR5 memory
• ATI Eyefinity technology with support for up to three displays
• ATI Stream technology,
• Designed for DirectCompute 5.0 and OpenCL
• Accelerated Video Transcoding (AVT)
• Compliant with DirectX® 11 and earlier revisions
• Supports OpenGL 3.1
• ATI CrossFireX™ multi-GPU support for highly scalable performance6
• ATI Avivo™ HD video and display technology
• Dynamic power management with ATI PowerPlay™ technology
• DL-DVI, DL-DVI, DisplayPort, HDMI
• PCI Express® 2.0 support

The launch will take place in September and retail availability in October, same time as Windows 7 launch. More details later.
