And Whats Point of getting a Q6600? There Dire. Get a PROPER Quad, 9000's?

you can easily overclock a Q6600 and have the same noticeable performance as a Q9000 series processor which is not overclocked, saving yourself alot of money.

Though, for this to be apparent, you would need a high end motherboard like the asus maximus formula/rampage/striker series boards.

Or to some extent the nforce 7* series SLI boards.

bigger is not always better these days in terms of processors if you have the right motherboard and cooling. Why pay 600quid for a Q9000 series when the Q6600 (which i have) costs 120quid and can perform roughly the same (or better on watercooling).

Not all of them (I won't be going for DDR3 but still be getting a MoBo with the X48 chipset).

You can basically OC every CPU, but there is no guarantee how far you will be able to get.
And since P4 CPU's are known to get real hot it might even be harder for you (even tho 1.5Ghz is slow even for a P4 and this it might produce a low amount of heat atm).

Tbh how can you even play CSS (or are you a CS player?) with such a CPU... I already had trouble with my old 2.66Ghz P4.

need to research about teh timings then, but this machine still roxx

sys is stable up and running, without any problems. as most of you knwo, i work with 3dsmax, this program is foooooookin sensible if some timings are not fine or cpus are doing miscalculations... it works stable
games might forgive some calculation errors but 3d programs dont since the system is 64bit and damn accurate lightray calculations are needed...

we dont need to talk about the GFX and PhysX i guess

4 GX2's to be exactly.

i had em already with the box before (latest 730 pictures).. i did change that box again to the one i got now.
with the old box i had to often a BSOD or e.g. stalker at full HD seems to judder sometimes. now with teh new ram and new mobo revision everything is fine.

Btw the problem with only 5GPU cores being recognized also happened with the FASTRA project on XP.
I am not sure if and how they solved it.

AMD X2 5600+ OC'd to 3.2ghz ( 2.8ghz stock )
Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe Motherbaord
Cheap & Cheerful DDR2 667 @ DDR2 800 speeds
BFG 8800 GT OCX edition OC'd to 760mhz Core, 1900mhz Shader and 2200mhz Memory ( Stock 700mhz core, 1728mhz shader and 2000mhz memory )

With any luck i should be picking up another BFG 8800 GT OCX this weeked for some SLI

On another note, with my 5600+ X2 at stock speeds of 2.8ghz i was getting ~190fps in the CSS built in stress test, with the 5600+ OC'd to 3.2 i now get ~245fps. OC'ing does make a difference.

Did you come acress the HT bus problem with your 5600+ or did you put the multiplier down too keep the HT bus stable Mole?

I lowered the HT bus to x4 to keep the bus speed down and ive had no problems with it at that speed at all. I also dont get any problem with it set to x5, its just my preference to keep it at x4.

Temps are idle 29 degree's and 43 degree's under load with a CPU duct and silver based thermal grease.

I know dude but going over it does jack and shit, some motherbaords cant cope with the HT link over 1000mhz but our M2N-SLI board CAN, infact i dont know of many boards that cant cope with the link over 1000mhz. In theory a higher HT link bus would keep the CPU cores more fed with information and make sure that they always get a nice flow of information but in practice it does very little if anything to performance having it higher. Thats why i leave it at x4 as all its doing at x5 it eating up more power and creating more excess heat for nothing.

Hmm, atm I can only find that RAM in sets of 2x 2GB so I wonder if you have 2 sets of it (2 sets of 370 Euro costing RAM you rich bastard!)?

But back on the actual point, what motherboard do you have, as long as it doesn't support quad channel it isn't possible.
For RAM claiming it to be Quad channel is nothing more then marketing talk.

Edit: I have found on the nVidia site that your motherboard (NVidia 790i) only supports Dual channel, just look on the specifications tab.
