and I would like to add a few things. (before I start this let me clear up, I am against any form of paedophelia, against all forms of abuse, etc etc, I have morals and standards even though it doesn't always seem that way)

The problem with paedophelia is that the views we have on the subject are relatively new views to our culture, look at different cultures acros the world and look at different legal ages for having sex. You will see a great variety of age differences and different views on the subject. The views we have on the subject (and I hope you all feel the same) is though slightly weird if you look at our european history and look at the ages people used to get married at. If you look at european history its filled with loads of 10 year olds getting married, now was this sick back than? I'm not 100% sure. Is it sick now, well, I'm not 100% sure. I find it sick, but classing paedophelia as a dissease is an area which is slightly difficult to go into.
There will be a part of those people who are seriously diseased, mostly mental illness (they have been abused at children themselves, they are mentally disturbed, etc), these people could also have turned out to be normal rapists, but in this case got a bad case of paedo.
These people should imo be found before they turn paedo. How? focussing on molestation, incestual rape, etc.
The other paedo's are a different problem. I do not agree with what they dream about, what they yearn for, but if I may be slightly honest, history shows that mankind has always done it. Our culture does not agree with it now, me included, but this does show it "can" be in human nature to do it. These people should be punished for what they do if they do it. But can you punish a person who knows he has paedo feelings, but stops himself from giving in to his urges? Is he a sick man/woman? Are his thoughts evul and bad when human nature might just have given him something genetically which he can't do anything about?

I find the subject a hard thing to talk to, worked with to many abused kids in my life, am actually working on a theater project with kids that have been molested or worse by their fathers or uncles atm so I do think every paedo that gives in to his impulses should be stopped, but I find it hard to draw a line on the floor and classify paedo's as one kind of evul. since there are different cases and happenings.

I think when you have a sister to look out for, you have a differant opinion on things, a more protective and agressive manner towards the safety of her. If someone tried to do anything to my sister, i would be put in jail for the consequences of his actions. this isnt intended as a personal flame on your post prisk, i just disagree with the majority of what your saying, on a non-personal level.

If you have studied this problem Garner then you will know that a VERY large percentage of people convicted of these crimes have suffered abuse themselves as children... The whole thing is a vicious cycle of abused turning abuser, and as such Prisk is absolutely right - it needs to be treated as a mental health issue...

I'm not saying here that they shouldn't be stopped from having contact with children - far from it - I think they should be stopped from having any contact with children at all. But just saying "CASTRATE THEM" doesn't solve the problem in any way...

The other depressing fact about this subject is that it is far more likely that a child being abused is having it done to them by a family member or friend of the family - the whole "lurking pedo's" thing is blown massively out of proportion by a sensation hungry media who latch onto the one or two cases that happen and plaster them across the news for weeks on end...

Now I'm not saying that the few cases that involve strangers aren't very sad, but the media just draws attention away from the real problem which we should be addressing - getting the kids who are being abused by people close to them to tell someone, and getting the abuser to realise that they have a problem that needs to be addressed (something they are unlikely to do if they think they will end up with mobs baying for their blood)...

These "kind of people are sadly catigorized under one same problem either they say there sick or they say there are evil, more to the truth is the fact that it can be all of the above or non. Some was born mentally unstable some was created threw own experiance as children. Some "are" just evil. And a load "is" actually born with it geneticly "NOT" acting on it and those who actually do act just in the same mannor as a regular sexuall predetor.

I have first hand experience of this phenomena. When I was 15/16, I was made clan leader of small clan called SDS, this was almost ten years ago now. Anyway we had 5 or 6 members, everyone generally being 14-16. I recruited a new member called Efos, an american guy who claimed to be 15. He instantly hit it off with a number of the clan members, specifically the vice-leader Sperry. Anyway, six months down the line, I was talking to both of them about a clan match on barrysworld.. and all of suddent Efos tells me he is a 35 year man, and that he's in love with Sperry. Sperry instantly responds with saying that he feels the same way, and is now going to visit Efos in America. I was shocked and appalled, as they were obviously having a relationship, and Sperry must have been 15/16 when it started. I was young myself, and didn't really know what to do. In hindsight, I wished I had seeked help on the matter. I've since lost contact with both of them, and I'm hoping Sperry saw sense in the end.
