Well, I dunno exactly what it is, and I have a hunch, but it's not just me that thinks the quality of play on the public server has dropped to a very low point.
It seems populated by some very noobish players who don't play like a team, and it's not surprising that a lot of us are finding it very tiring and not as fun. Obviously, as you get better. you want to play with better players, but the fragmasters public server always seemed to offer that. It could be that this all talk business is really putting the better players off, and you can hardly blame them. It could be that auto-assigning teams has put the more regular players off, because like it or not, some people like to play with their friends in a "team" game. Half the fun of old was having an understanding with your team-mates, not just people you knew ofcourse, but people you could talk to without fear your enemy would hear, or people that you knew you had a good understanding with and so wanted to rejoin them for the next map, whether they were in fm! or not. I really hope this drive for auto-assigning teams (which doesn't initially seem such a bad idea) isn't preventing non-fm! friends who like to play together as a team from joining anymore. Maybe it's completely unrelated. But maybe it's not. I've not seen the public seem so unrewarding as this before. The all talk issue needs addressing promptly. A full server doesn't necessarily mean a fun server for those that love it. ps. It's almost like it's become a counterstrike source server, everyone for themselves, points mean everything! Teamfortress 2 has the word "team" in it. Some people might like to play with their friends in a team. This is not always possible at the moment. I've spoken to quite a few people about this, and they all seem to agree, that if, as friends, a few of us joined the public server for the first time now, saw all talk was on, played on some map called Stag, saw that we couldn't join the same team and witnessed the quality of play, we'd just go somewhere else more accomodating. I kind of agree, since the auto team balance was introduced the quality of team work has dropped a lot and I dunno if it's just me that gets auto assigned to a certain player type but when I was playing last night we had about 6 medics, 5 engineers, 1 demoman and 3 snipers and it was crap because no one was trying to get to the next point.
Noobs joining the server can't be helped though but it does get quite frustrating when for example you have a noob medic standing right next to you and your calling for a medic and your not healed but not much you can do about that as we were all noobs once ![]() Alltalk definatly needs to be turned off as I don't want to say anything on mic now incase the other team can hear me. Also I dunno if it's just me that hates that cp_stag_b4 map, on paper it looks very good but its very poorly layed out and realy confusing to navigate around. The few times I've played it on fm tf2 server most people have been moaning about it and typing rtv so It can't just be me that dislikes it. Perhaps remove it for now? |

TBH we could use just a regular being admin and able to change stuff like maps and plug-ins on the server... Then there would be no need for making a topic for every single change :x

I tried to warn people that this might happen. Auto-assigning teams doesnt remove one-sided teams or anything approaching it. Like we established in a previous post about this, most people who voted for forced random admit they only want to "remove the fear in some people's heads that one team lost because there were more fm! players on the other team".
But I guess we all learn the hard way. Teamfortress 2 isn't a counterstrike game. And I repeat, like or not, good TF2 players like to play as a team. And when you play as a team you make friends. And some friends like to play together on the same team. TF2 should promote this, not make it very hard or impossible to achieve. I don't think any good tf2 player would choose to play on the public server in its current state. Why would they ? And just cos a load of people vote for forced random, doesn't necessarily mean it's a good thing for promoting good play and teamwork. If anything, it seems to have actively discouraged it. |

Ph33r doesnt trust people with the rcon Dogmeat.
And yeah i agree with everything being said here. Some maps need sorting out, the auto assign needs sorting, all talk needs sorting. And also its really annoying how it chooses your class for you when you join the server.

Theres no need for auto-assign with team balance on, and all-talk definitely lowers the standard of play on the server, with people less inclined to talk tactics over the mic.
Including some custom maps in the rotation is fine, so long as theres not so many that you are faced with an all-custom map vote all the time. |

There are alot of changes , the problem is you have to test it out before you can say , this is shit or this .. but mr fraggi get not so mutch time , i can understand than , but he got some good helpers here in the forum , i think some of them can get the rcon to do some things "faster" , mr fraggi can get a free weekend too ..

Also, just because enough people vote for something, doesn't necessarily mean it's the "right" thing to do. All those that voted for forced random should play a few rounds on the public now and tell me if the quality of play is better and more fair. It's almost like a comedy sketch. I think some people underestimate how many people might want to play with a friend in a "TEAM" game. Last edited by B-Boy; 12-04-2008 at 04:19 PM. |

Many changes are unnecessary.really. The original fraggy server was what attracted me here. no nobbish gameplay and its enjoyable most of the time. Now the feel is abit different..
and to Danny: what you talking about dude. stag b4 is great I love it. Its untraditional like dust bowl or graval pit.. maps like stag and es dynamite are great additions to the map rotation. Would be even better if we have lazy town back. |
