I just bought a PowerColor HD 4870 for £187, factory overclocked with an after market cooler. Price/performance is just unbeatable at the minute and for the latest and greatest games @ 1680 x 1050, it will last me for a decent while.

I understand what you are saying Garner, and it will be interesting to see the specs and performance in the next set of cards but you can't really go wrong with a 4800 series card. Comes on Tuesday, can't wait to test it out on Crysis Warhead and Far Cry 2

i like that heatsink on the powercolour, saw a vid a while back on hexus and they used that cooler on the 3870x2. its a heatpipe and fan in one, looked huge but the 3870x2 is big (4870 is quite smaller)
theres a rumour that u can overclock the cards that are factory overclocked at 800mhz - core to 950mhz - core using water cooling, which is impressive. ive overclocked my standard 4870 core 790mhz ram 4400mhz, these cards overclock for fun

nab, talking about overclocking girls is crossing the line for me :P

im basically saying that if the 4870 is a pretty sick card, i wonder what the new series of cards will be like

the powercolor cards are, in my opinion, the best ones.
i will probably order my card sooner than later now, after my 9600GT is playing up more and more.

i will get the 4870 powercolor standard clock speed card.

Sage, what make is your 4870? I read that you can overclock them quite a bit but early ones were running quite hot at idle and load so you had to update the bios or manually set the fan speeds.

Good choice garner, I only got the overclocked one because the aftermarket cooler looks good and should be better than a normal retail one. Plus the cooler on my PowerColor 3870 was amazing, under 45 degrees with full load.

Get it tomorrow with another 2GB of RAM, will have to fire up Crysis and let it stretch it's legs

Depends, the reviews haven't been that great but I quite liked the first one. When it comes out on Steam I might just buy it. Waiting for Crysis Warhead to come out though, that's only a few weeks off
