Ati's R1000 graphics chipset

Apparently according to some sources, we can expect cards with this architecture by new year. With the 4870 spanking the GTX 260 and 280 in price and coming up with the same-ish benchmarks, even cruising past the nvidia counter parts with the 4870x2....

what can we expect from the R1000 chipsets?
Personally, im going to wait to buy a 4870 now until new year, when a price reduction will be imminent of the R1000 cards release.

I haven't heard a thing yet about the RV1000 (if it is even called that

), but new chips etc. are always interesting since they could bring a huge performance boost compared to the current technology.

But personally I think the next generation of ATI cards will be more focused on multi GPU scaling, this is where they currently are way ahead of nVidia and I think there is where the future lies, cus just like with CPU's there is a point you cannot up the clock speed (allot) by simply going to a smaller die (sp?) or making the cards bigger by adding stream processors etc. (like nVidia is currently doing).

Yes on both pics the cards are simply Photoshopped in, but it still looks nice.
