public server surfer ![]() ![]() My Mood: | after reading a recent feature in pc format issue 216 'build a dx10 rig for £176' i decided to try and create my own now unfortunatly most of the parts have seized production since the issue was written so i had to find manly new ones, the rig they built in the issue was ok but wouldn't have been able to run games as windows vista demands so much (dx10 is only available on vista). the one i have made cost just short of £80 more, but for that u get something quite special, a PC capable of playing every game (inc crysis all be it not at the legendary max settings) this is does not include monitor + peripharels. but it probably wouldn't push u over £320 AMD AM2 Athlon 64 X2 5000+ , Brisbane Core, Dual Core 2.6GHz, 2x 512KB Cache, Retail £41.64 Scan Computers UK: AMD AM2 Athlon 64 X2 5000+ , Brisbane Core, Dual Core 2.6GHz, 2x 512KB Cache, Retail Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2, AMD 740G, S AM2+, PCI-E (x16), DDR2 667/800, SATA II, SATA RAID, Micro ATX £38.01 Scan Computers UK: Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2, AMD 740G, S AM2+, PCI-E (x16), DDR2 667/800, SATA II, SATA RAID, Micro ATX 2GB (2x1GB) Corsair TwinX XMS2, DDR2 PC2-6400 (800), 240 Pins, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 4-4-4-12 £33.65 Scan Computers UK: 2GB (2x1GB) Corsair TwinX XMS2, DDR2 PC2-6400 (800), 240 Pins, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 4-4-4-12 512MB Palit/XVision 9600GT, PCI-E 2.0, Mem1800MHz, DDR3, GPU650MHz, 64 Cores, 2x DL DVI-I/S-Video £71.78 Scan Computers UK: 512MB Palit/XVision 9600GT, PCI-E 2.0, Mem1800MHz, DDR3, GPU650MHz, 64 Cores, 2x DL DVI-I/S-Video 250 GB Hitachi 0A35399/OA33423 Deskstar T7K250, SATA 300, 7200 rpm, 8MB Cache, 8.5 ms, NCQ £30 Scan Computers UK: 250 GB Hitachi 0A35399/OA33423 Deskstar T7K250, SATA 300, 7200 rpm, 8MB Cache, 8.5 ms, NCQ LG GSA-H55NBAL 20x DVD±R, 16x DVD±DL, DVD+RW x8/-RW x6, DVD-RAM x12, IDE with SecurDisc Black OEM £14.91 Scan Computers UK: LG GSA-H55NBAL 20x DVD±R, 16x DVD±DL, DVD+RW x8/-RW x6, DVD-RAM x12, IDE with SecurDisc Black OEM Compucase 6CS3, Black Midi Tower, Headphone/ USB, ATX, 400W PSU £26.30 total cost £256.69 (inc vat & shipping) i'm seriously considering building as a replacement for a rather aging dell (2 year old omgwtfbbq) but first i want to see if anyone can build a better one for less (try to include shipping like i have to even it up).gl

But I wouldn't trust a PSU that comes with a case, especially if you pay only 35 euro's for both.

VAT: £264.64 Bear in mind i would have opted for the AMD 5000+ but they were out of stock so the next one down is the 4800 and is the same price as the 5000. overall though £4.64 over and i would opt for the 3870 because i just think it would be better but thats personal preference they are both good cards and my hand is on the radeon. my choice of mobo over yours is that the main thing is there is a dvi port on there which you dont normally see and also 4 memory slots too. overall though half of the things i've chosen you already have |

The special little boy ![]() ![]() ![]() My Mood: | The 9600 GT (and 8800 GT) out perform the HD 3870 (especially with AA on), so that extra 2 pounds is worth it. ![]() The E8200 is nothing special, can't say much about it since barely anyone takes it cus the E8400 and E8500 aren't that much more expensive and real overclockers (E8400 is 1 Euro more expensive as the E8200). The 9600 GSO is kinda as useless card, doesn't perform at all. But there is a GSO out there (forgot the brand, sorry) which can be modded to a 9600 GT cus it basically had all the hardware of a GT but with 2 disabled RAM chips. Strangely I do not see a motherboard listed, so count on that being crap (Asrock or something). 8Gb RAM is allot and tbh. none needs that much atm with a handfull of exceptions. That is it for now, might comment a bit more later.
