Default HDMI - VGA

With my new Asus 4870 i got a DVI/HDMI adapter cable....however, i wish to run HDMI but my screen only has a VGA 15 pin cable, and no other inputs.

Is it possible for HDMI to run into a VGA port on my screen?

so basically i want to do this:

gfx card - [dvi - hdmi adapter] - cable - VGA into screen.

hmm, unless im confused, or explained it wrong lol

the DVI/HDMI adapter is on my gfx card, and i want to plug a a HDMI into it and run into my screen (which has a VGA pin) so im looking for a male HDMI cable on one end and a male VGA on the other.

i know where i can buy one, i would like to know if it would work?....because im going from DVI to HDMI to VGA (would there be any problems/picture quality issues with all this conversion)??

cheers for the quick responses :P

To put it straight yes it dus work. There was a customer where i worked wanted to do similar to go to a projector frm his laptop. I dnt know about picture quality as iv never dun it myself thou i imagine you mite loose abit of quality thou wont really notice it as you are only useing a vga connection and they are old only use an analogue signal where as dvi and hdmi are digital.

yea just stick with VGA mate, i have DVI to HDMI from PC to TV but only because the VGA input on it has a lower max resolution than 1080p. Otherwise i would have just stuck with VGA

if u dont use the dvi/hdmi dongle and then the hdmi cable u wont get any sound
its mainly for people to connect their pc to a big ass tv to watch movies, not really for gaming but i guess it could work.
(dl 1080p movies then watch them on tv, cuts out buying a blueray drive)
