    Default Experiences with ICOs?

    Hi guys!
I was wondering if anyone here has ever invested in an ICO? For those of you who are unaware (which I doubt but just to be sure ) an ICO is an Initial Coin Offering and is similar to an IPO (the Initial Public Offering) in the stock market. It means that you can buy a coin, token or a stock before it goes public, and works like a crowdfunding. I’m fond of the theory of crowdfunding because it helps small businesses to make the ‘jump’. Nevertheless, I’ve never invested in one neither^^

Yesterday, however, I read an article online about a new cryptocurrency (Cultural Coin), which is currently in its second ICO phase. The project and platform behind this cryptocurrency sound very interesting that's why I'm thinking about investing in it. However, I am not quite sure how risky an investment in ICO is. Especially in this one. Like everything else in life, I assume there are lots of pros and cons of ICOs and crowdfunding. Of course, I have already googled some but most of the articles I found were paid (ad) articles promoting this or that. Therefore, I'd really appreciate some advice, experiences or tips concerning this topic by you guys.

    Thanks in advance!

PS: currently reading the white paper!

My personal opinion - Never invest in ICO’s, unless you have spare £££ that you want to bin it.

I’d rather invest in a coin already in public exchange (BTC, ETC XRP, LTC) however crypto currency is extremely volatile and that you are not afraid to lose.

Thanks so much for your answer and your opinion on this! Seems like you know a lot about this.
Have you ever made a bad experience with an ICO or why do you think money is just wasted here?

Do you actually hold coins already or would you just recommend to do so? And why did you listed only big ones? Do you think big ones are better? In my opinion, especially big ones are those, which are extremely volatile. Wouldn't it be better to invest in a small coin?
As I read the white paper of the Cultural Coin, I felt like this is actually a good ICO and a great idea. Did you read it too?

I invested a vast amount in LTC and XRP, and came around at around 200% up. To set expectation, i invested around £1200 overall and never made a loss.

That being said, existing coins are still vastly volatile. To invest in ICO would be exactly like an IPO as you mentioned, but you have to then start thinking of the ICO like a business. Despite ICO coin's performance being more public than a typically business, you don't have the liberty of understanding the risks of and to the coin in question as the coin's performance in an ICO scenario isn't a direct relation to workers, board, CEO ect - so it's not easily changeable.

I would suggest speaking to an investment analyst or a financial advisor before investing anything and have them make some recommendations after taking into consideration what type of portfolio you'd like to hold, how much you'd like to invest and where you'd like to be in 3-5 years.

Thanks so much for your answer and your advice. I will take this into consideration and maybe talk to an investment analyst. However, regarding the cultural coin, I don't think it is necessary, as this token is not meant for trading like the bitcoin. As far as I understood it, it is a crowdfunding via blockchain and a new access to cultural content.
Maybe it is not everyone's cup of tea but I really like it and I think it is a great project

Garner, I hope you managed to cash out (LTC/XRP) while it was high, buddy.
I am a newbie, just started investing in various top ALT coins.

I am HODL, for long term, my favourite is VeChain that I managed to grabbed while in the red.
