Default Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Hi everyone, since I'm new to the forums I thought I would start a thread about one of my favourite titles in gaming history (with the exception of a few others).

    1. What are you thoughts on kojima essentially completely re-inventing the game as a whole, thematically, the mechanics, the voice acting, the gameplay etc.

    2. Do you like this darker route he seems to be taking?

    3. Your thoughts on what series of events will play out. (We have very little information on the actual story itself)

I look forward to hearing your thoughts and theories on this. discuss!!

I have only ever played one of the Metal Gear Solid games, can't remember which one!, so I can't really contribute much to this thread! I remeber enjoying it though!

Is there a central plot or story that links all of the games? I mean more than him being a spy or whatever he is!

haha, no worries squirty! Yeah, the Metal Gear Solid storyline interconnects, but to be honest it is so complex I'd probably get banned for spamming ;-) It's something you really need to play to fully understand everything. The best place to start is Metal Gear Solid 3!

I think the only one I've played is MGS 2 on the ps2. That was the one mostly set on an oil rig I think. I loved it. I wish they would bring these games out on PC.

MGS is one of my favourite games of all time (I never played the GameCube remake though), MGS2 was pretty good, MGS3 was absolutely amazing, and unfortunately I've never had a PS3 so haven't played MGS4.

As for MGS5, everything I've seen so far looks spot-on so the only complaint I have is that now I'm a PC gamer I cant play MGS5.

Yeah, I know what you mean Sean, I'm also saving up for a PS4. My concern is that people who never actually got a chance to play Peace Walker won't be able to relate to this game at all. I'm looking forward to seeing Millers journey throughout this game, and how he's impacted by the profession he has been so happily advocating (WAR) for example losing his eyes, arm and leg. In peace walker he was almost child like, very eager and enthusiastic with all these grand ideas of creating motherbase and making war a business. That has been flipped around and now it's just a simple story of revenge by any means necessary. We've already seen him overseeing the torture of huey and other comarades.

I have Peace Walker (bought the MGS collection for the 360 as my housemate at the time had one), but I didnt get to play it before I moved out.

So I looked into this, as I probably wont EVER get a PS4 or XB1, and MGSV can be completed in under 10 minutes. Yes you heard that right, the entire only main mission can be completed in UNDER 10 MINUTES!

    [SPOILER ALERT IN THIS VIDEO]

The game has 1 main mission, and also 5 side-objectives you can load up separately. It seems that the devs were taking the piss when they set the asking price for this glorified tech demo.

6 missions in total but all in the same location, that's gonna get boring fast I would imagine. I played a couple of these games, one about a big nuclear weapon boss thing and one in a jungle but I couldn't really get into them and traded them in for other games.

well, i bought Ground Zeroes on ebay for a tenner and its actually really good. 15 hours playtime so far and it hasnt started to get boring yet (despite what i said ^ there) even though its all set in the same location. once you complete the main mission and open up the side missions it adds a bit of variety and the challenge to get better times etc on replays keeps me coming back. once i finished it i watched a couple of speedruns but ill just say it right now, no chance ill be able to do that kinda stuff although the urge to get an S rank will probly keep me playing for a while, thing is i find it hard to fight the compulsion to kill and destroy (in game obv, not irl) . apparently saves can be carried over to The Phantom Pain so looking forward to that when it comes coz that does look like a really good game.
